Bulwinkel Park, located at the end of Main Street, is named in memory of the Charles Bulwinkel family who owned the adjacent land. The Bulwinkels arrived on the Plateau in 1884 when Charles accepted a position with the Melbourne Sugar Company Mill at Rous Mill. Charles saw that the money was in dairying rather than sugar and bought the property Fountaindale which bordered Maguire’s creek, Alstonville. He and his family were community minded and once established he joined Alstonville Agricultural Society and the Alstonville Progress Association, became a life member of the School of Arts and a Justice of the Peace. Take your lunch and rest in this peaceful park. If you are very quiet you might even see a platypus.
